FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Procurement and quality questions, answered the way a supplier questionnaire asks them.

Common Questions
If a question below is not covered, it can be answered directly โ see the contact page.
What is checked during a CMM calibration?
Linear positioning accuracy, probing performance and volumetric measurement error are checked against the applicable ISO 10360 test, using reference artifacts traceable to NIST.
Does a CMM need to be moved for calibration?
Bridge and gantry CMMs are calibrated in place. Portable arms and smaller gauges are typically sent to the performing laboratory.
What turnaround should be planned for gage calibration?
Turnaround depends on gauge type and current lab queue. The quotation confirms a specific date before the gauge ships.
What appears on a calibration certificate?
The certificate states the reference standards used, the reported measurement uncertainty, as-received and as-left condition, and the standard the work was performed under.
Can a CMM be repaired and calibrated in the same visit?
Repair of a failing axis, probe or scale is quoted separately from calibration, and verification is scheduled once the repair is complete.
What is required to quote a part program?
The quotation requires a current drawing or CAD model, the target CMM software, and the probing system installed on the machine.
Are out-of-tolerance results reported?
Yes. As-received readings are recorded even when they fall outside tolerance, and the report states both as-received and as-left values.
What gauge types are not accepted for calibration?
Gauges with visible damage, missing identification, or wear beyond functional limits are declined and the reason is stated in writing.
How often should a granite surface plate be checked?
Interval depends on use and environment. Calibration history is reviewed to recommend a suitable interval.
What standards govern the calibration work?
Calibration is performed under ISO/IEC 17025:2017, with measurements traceable to the SI through NIST.
