Background

Cleveland CMM Calibration and Repair coordinates dimensional calibration, repair and programming for manufacturers across Northeast Ohio and the Great Lakes region. Requests covering bridge, gantry and cantilever CMMs, portable articulated arms, granite surface plates, gauge blocks, and ring and plug gauges are routed to laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Certificates issued under those accredited scopes state the reference standards used, the reported measurement uncertainty, and traceability to the SI through NIST. The intake process matches each request to a laboratory whose scope covers the specific instrument and parameter involved before any work is scheduled.

A Brief History

Dimensional measurement equipment running on a Cleveland-area production floor rarely stays in one condition for long. A CMM that passed its last annual check can drift from a bumped axis, a worn probe, or routine thermal cycling in a shop that was never climate-controlled to laboratory spec. Scheduling calibration, repair and programming through a single point of contact keeps that drift from reaching a part print, and keeps a maintenance or quality department from managing separate vendors for each instrument type.

Requests are reviewed against the scope of accreditation held by the performing laboratory before anything is booked. On-site service is scheduled for fixed CMMs that cannot be moved economically. Portable arms, gauge blocks, and ring and plug gauges are shipped to a laboratory and returned with full documentation. The same intake process applies across the service area, from Cleveland through Akron, Canton and Youngstown.

What the Work Is Measured Against

These are the operating commitments the work is measured against.

  • 01

    Scope-matched routing

Each request is checked against the performing laboratory's accredited scope before acceptance.

  • 02

    Documented results

Certificates state reference standards, uncertainty, and as-received data.

  • 03

    Repair before re-test

Failed instruments are quoted for repair ahead of a second verification.

  • 04

    Regional routing

On-site visits are scheduled by corridor to limit travel time across Northeast Ohio.
